To provide an affirmative alternative method for at-risk disadvantaged youth in high crime neighborhoods through the positive intervention of police officers as role models, and to combat community deterioration and juvenile delinquency through education.
Purpose:
Our purpose is to combat juvenile delinquency, crime prevention, educational benefits for youth; personal responsibility; exposure to new ideas and areas; teaching pro-social values, self esteem building-, personal development and growth provide youth with responsible adult role models/mentors, provide structured, supervised, safe, gang/drug free activities, create better community relations between youth and police, encourage principles of good will, friendship, respect, citizenship, encourage respect for authority figures, create a message of decency, fair play and respect for law and order.
We as a society do not provide programs that will ultimately assist at-risk children and their future lifestyles. There are not enough programs that persuade children to stay in school. There are not enough early intervention programs for at- risk children and their families.
The Community As A Whole Must Learn To Embrace The Children In The Community To Survive
Our objectives are: l) to provide quality activities for the youth of our community, 2) provide local youth with focus and direction, helping them become responsible citizens, and 3) establish positive relationships between youth, the police, and the community.
The communities surrounding our facility, where poverty and lack of education are common, maintain adults who are under- educated. These adults are ashamed of the fact that they cannot sufficiently assist with homework or school projects. There are no other organizations in this area that offer programs that are consistent with Texas Cops & Kids’ "hands on" approach. Children are often the hidden losers as a result of non-educated parents who in some cases have language barriers. Many at-risk children come from single-family households where the guardian parent works more than one job.
