It’s summer and my kids are officially out of school. Though I love for them to be here at home and just relax and recharge, I am dreading the fact that they will just be bored to death, watch tv, raid my pantry and whine all day long.
I have to find a way to keep them busy, entertained, and away from the tv and pantry for as long as I can. Some “all-knowing” chic I happen to casually chat with at the grocery suggested I ship them to some summer camp. That way, they’ll be off my back the whole time, just like when they were in school. But, I don’t wanna do that.
I just want them to simply enjoy the summer in a more relaxed and unstructured environment and just be kids — with us — at home, since I work from home most of the time, and my hubby just sleeps (hey! he works at night, that’s why!).
So I thought about starting a fitness family project this summer. The goal is to keep the kids busy, moving, and off my back so I can work, lol! Kidding aside, the main goal really is to increase the whole family’s physical activity while enjoying each other’s company. Since it’s becoming harder and harder to squeeze in time to workout these days, I’ve decided to include the whole family in my quest to be fit, since they’re the reason I can’t find the time to workout anyway!
So how can we make fitness a family project?
First, we added Zoe in the family. Our adorable pug does not only make us enjoy walking as a family, she also makes us chase her around the house like crazy, everytime she attempts to tinkle or poop in my carpet! When her gums itch, it’s our turn to run coz those baby teeth are really sharp! Either way, we get a good cardio from her several times a day!
Next, we bought a swingset from costco. Carrying the boxes alone from the suv to the garage was already a workout! We were planning to build it ourselves in the backyard, but nah, we just had a professional handyman/carpenter built if for us. We’d rather spend the time playing on it.
This swingset just keeps my kids playing the whole day! They are having a blast, especially when other kids from neighbors join them. As my eldest puts it: “Aaahhh, good times!” And at the end of the day when we could finally join the kids play on it, guess it’s the swingset’s turn to have a workout, ha!
We’ll definitely have a fun summer ahead of us, and I’m so excited that I’m making this a regular segment on this blog. I’ll be posting weekly updates on anything new (or old) that we’re doing in relation to our fitness family project. We are open to suggestions and feedbacks are always welcome. I hope you could join us too, my hot moms!
