Gizelle, my 5 year old daughter went home yesterday and surprised us with her “Super Star Student Of The Week” sticker award and certificate that she got from school. We were of course very proud of our little one. She was the outspoken, extrovert one and we didn’t quite know what to expect from her yet since she’s still very young but it seems like she’s following her big sister’s footsteps.
Gabrielle, the big sister, is the role model student. She was reading Magic Tree House chapter books by Kindergarten, and has always been in her class’ advanced groups in reading and math. Though her school does not give out awards and honors to excellent students, I just have to content myself with the highest marks given in all subjects in her report card. As her former teacher said, “we need more students like Gaby.”
When Gizelle started school, we can’t help but notice how much fun she’s having. Though both of them are just social butterflies and very playful, Gabrielle is more reserved and always wants to get the perfect scores.
Gizelle, on her preschool years, just wants to have fun, which we totally supported. But when she got into Kindergarten three weeks ago, she all of a sudden got interested into details and would explain how one thing works. It’s amazing, she now talks more than ever, but at the same time, she just turned into a sponge sucking in everything that gets her interest and spewing it back by talking about it.
Like her sister Gaby, she has started noticing and “taking note” of her accomplishments and is now more driven to accomplish something.
But as what I’ve been telling my kids, we will always be proud of them no matter what grades they get or accomplishments they make. What’s important to us is that they develop a love for learning and have fun while doing it.
